As construction cranes visibly start changing the landscape along Stockton Boulevard in Sacramento, city officials announced a package of initiatives Friday with existing residents of neighboring Oak Park in mind.

Mayor Darrell Steinberg and a host of representatives from area nonprofits and community groups unveiled the first tranche of $10 million in measures meant to head off gentrification from the Aggie Square project south of UC Davis Medical Center.

“The community said, rightfully, growth is good if it’s done right,” Steinberg said. “Today we launch the beginning of a $10 million investment with $2 million to help existing homeowners and renters stay housed.”
