Our free arts podcasting training will encompass: a brief history of podcasting, types of podcasts, examples of popular arts podcasts and time for a full-class discussion. We’ll also provide tips on how to actually make one of these podcasts, which will be led by Nick Brunner, co-host of our “Creativity in the Capital” podcast.

Join us for music and conversation as DJ Epik and Vinyl Honey spin some tracks at Legend Has It in Sacramento. We’re taking our Hangout Gigs local music series on the road — and our first stop is the Torch Club, a Sacramento music institution owned by the same family since 1969! During the event, the jazz/hip hop fusion band LabRats will sit down for a 30-minute interview for a live episode of our podcast “Creativity in the Capital,” and then they’ll perform a few songs for the audience. There will be time for socializing, eating food (chicken and vegetarian sliders, with potato salad) and grabbing drinks from the bar.

Solving Sacramento fundraiser & live podcast

Join us for our inaugural fundraiser to support our journalism collaborative. We’ll have yummy food, a hosted bar, time for socializing and then we’ll take our seats for a live recording of two episodes of our “Creativity in the Capital” podcast. The podcast guests are: memoir author and Folsom Lake College creative writing professor Josh Fernandez; creator of “This Is What It Feels Like” podcast and Rituals of Mine musician Terra Lopez; G.I.R.L.S. Rock Sacramento co-founder and Executive Director Larisa Bryski; and blues musician Mick Martin.

Free arts journalism training

Attendees will learn about different types of art journalism, how to come up with ideas, how to pitch ideas to local editors, and how to interview artists and creatives about their work. We’ll also host a panel discussion with a few Sacramento-based arts journalists to talk about their careers and answer questions. Light refreshments will be served. Our training is open to anyone interested in reporting on Sacramento’s art scene! 👩‍🎨 While our curriculum will target college students and recent grads — especially those interested in a career in this field — we feel that people of any life stage and age who appreciate arts coverage might also benefit from attending. The training is FREE!

For our next “Suds and Solutions” event, Solving Sacramento is hosting a discussion about We Prosper Together. It’s a new initiative of 150-plus organizations in eight counties surrounding California’s capital that wants to take a more inclusive approach to economic development by creating livable-wage jobs and encouraging diverse investments into the regional economy. Our panelists will dive into the state of the Capital Region’s economy, including how it can take advantage of its assets and take action to address challenges and disparities.
