The slow transformation of downtown West Sacramento will take another step this week when the City Council votes on buying one of the aging motel properties on West Capitol Avenue.

According to the council agenda, the city would pay $3.35 million for the .82-acre Flamingo Motel at 920 West Capitol Ave., and use its units as interim housing for people recently homeless or at risk of being homeless.

“We feel good about it. It’s in the process,” said Ray Patel, a co-owner of the property currently.
