The city of Elk Grove has changed tracks on the contentious Oak Rose Apartments affordable project, announcing Thursday that city staff will ask the City Council to rehear the project.
After the council voted in July 2022 against the 67-unit permanent supportive housing project, both developer Excelerate Housing Group and California Attorney General Rob Bonta sued the city, saying it improperly voted against a project that would help address the state’s housing crisis.
“Elk Grove maintains its commitment to providing housing for all,” said Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen in a news release from the city Thursday. “The City Council has approved other projects that include permanent supportive housing units and continues to fund and operate a range of options designed to prevent, respond to, and end homelessness.”
