The Davis City Council has rezoned more than a dozen properties for high-density development, as part of an ongoing bid to show good faith in meeting state goals for more housing.

By changing the zoning either to high-density residential or high-density development with a mix of uses, the city is also working to get its housing element in compliance with state regulations, said Sherri Metzker, Davis’ community development director.

“We believe our housing market conditions being what they are, these sites are likely to attract new development,” Metzker said, adding that there are no active proposals yet for the 15 sites. The rezoning will officially take effect in early February after the council adopted it on a second reading earlier this week.
