Join us for our inaugural fundraiser and live podcast recording to support our journalism collaborative from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at CLARA auditorium, 1425 24th St. in Sacramento.
We’ll have yummy food, a hosted bar, time for socializing and then we’ll take our seats for a live recording of two episodes of our “Creativity in the Capital” podcast. “CitC” pairs artists together for conversation, and the podcast is hosted by Casey Rafter and Nick Brunner. The cost to attend is $25 for students and $40 for general admission.
For our fundraiser, our special podcast guests will be: memoir author and Folsom Lake College creative writing professor Josh Fernandez; creator of “This Is What It Feels Like” podcast and Rituals of Mine musician Terra Lopez; G.I.R.L.S. Rock Sacramento co-founder and Executive Director Larisa Bryski; and blues musician Mick Martin.
Founded in early 2022, Solving Sacramento is our city’s only journalism collaborative. We’re working to produce solution-oriented stories on the topics of affordable housing and homelessness, economic equity, arts and the environment. Our member outlets include Sacramento News & Review, The Sacramento Observer, Sacramento Business Journal, CapRadio, Outword Magazine, Russian American Media, Univision 19 and California Groundbreakers.
We have been grant-funded so far in our journey — thanks to Solutions Journalism Network, James Irvine Foundation and James B. McClatchy Foundation. In May, we were awarded a big arts journalism grant from the City of Sacramento, which allows us to do a whole bunch of cool and important work around increasing and improving coverage of Sacramento’s arts community.
But that city grant doesn’t cover any costs toward our ongoing operations or our other priority beats. So we’re focused now on figuring out how to generate revenue and become self-sustaining. Our fundraiser will be a fun way to launch our efforts! We hope you’ll join us.
