Plans to redevelop aging state office buildings on Capitol Mall into housing are back at square one, after the state of California balked at a request from developer McCormack Baron Salazar for funding toward the project.
Though the St. Louis-based development company walked away in August from the plan for adaptive reuse of 800 and 801 Capitol Mall and 751 N St. in Downtown Sacramento, the California Department of General Services did not have an update on the next plan for the three buildings.
“After MBS was unable to secure their desired funding, they informed us they would not be moving forward,” Jennifer Iida, a spokeswoman for DGS, said in an email. “We thank MBS for their efforts and look forward to other opportunities for these buildings.”
