A La Mode is a non-binary drag performer who is based in Sacramento and has performed all over the country. A La Mode (she/they) is also a drag producer, host and tenacious advocate for fair pay for those in her industry.
The documentary “A La Mode: A Slice of Life,” featuring Mode premiered Dec. 12 at the Crocker Art Museum and will eventually be released episodically on Mode’s YouTube page. The film digs into their drag career, which started in Sacramento after they moved to the city in May 2018. Raised in Brooklyn and having earned a dance degree in 2014, Mode lived in Philadelphia and New York before heading out west.
Mode recently met up with podcast co-host Casey Rafter for a conversation about Sacramento’s drag scene and making a living in the industry.
Listen to their conversation on our podcast, “Creativity in the Capitol,” available on streaming platforms.
