Sacramento-based opera singer and composer Courtney Daniels performs a movement from “The Lost One” at The Sofia.
Daniels is accompanied by Narmina Sultanova on piano, Ingrid Tracy on violin and Sacramento Dance Theater in this limited-run opera that blends classical musicality inspired by the likes of Verdi and Donizetti with song structures reminiscent of pop and alternative music from artists like Muse and Evanescence.
“I wanted to come up with a more ‘pop opera’ sort of concept to kind of engage the public that wouldn’t normally come to this sort of thing,” Daniels said.
The opera follows a woman caught in a kind of limbo space after being involved in a near-fatal car accident.
